On Tuesday, Samoa's principal censor, Leiataua Niuapu Faaui, announced that the Pacific nation was banning the Elton John biopic Rocketman from theaters because of its depictions of homosexuality. While Faaui conceded that Rocketman was "a good story," Samoa chose to ban the film because sodomy is a criminal offense there and 97 percent of the island's 200,000 residents identify as Christian. The AP notes that Samoa also banned the 2008 film Milk over similar concerns.
