Tommy, The Who's masterful 1965 concept album that was made into both a film and a Broadway show, will be revived for the 2021 season, according to Consequence of Sound. The 1993 show won a Grammy as well as five Tonys, including Best Direction of a Musical. The director of that show, Des McAnuff, who worked on it with The Who's Pete Townshend, is eager to return to the tale. The plot centers around a deaf, blind and mute boy who becomes a famous pinball wizard and leader. "The story of Tommy exists all too comfortably in the 21st century. In fact, time may finally have caught up to Tommy Walker," McAnuff says.
