DAWG provides a safe and loving environment for dogs awaiting permanent adoption, and promotes their adoption through outreach programs in the Santa Barbara community.
Most of the dogs in our care come from Santa Barbara county shelters. Our primary goal is to reduce the rate of euthanasia in the county shelters by providing the medical care and training many dogs need for a second chance at life.
Since DAWG’s inception in 1991, we have worked hard to bring out the best in our dogs, improving their quality of life during their stay at the shelter, and placing healthy, well-behaved dogs back into the community.
Dog of the Week
One of DAWG’s most handsome is no other than our Spaniel Mix, Fred. Fred is an enthusiastic dog with a sparkle in his eye who loves to be play with his person and romp around with his doggy pals. If you're in search of an active dog, look no further than Mr. Explorer himself, Fred! He’ll run, walk, hike, fetch, and do everything else in between with you. Due to Fred’s adventurous side he does need a secure yard since chain link is easy for him to climb and jump out of. He would enjoy an adult household that can toss him the ball or his favorite toy, take him out to smell the dirt and flowers, and give him some yummy treats on a comfy bed as his regular routine.
